As our MVPverse progress, the next big event or personality that jumps into the timeline is Eric Reis of The Lean Startup fame. Much of this article comes from his early day's video of a talk on Minimum Viable Product he delivered in silicon valley.

He starts with one basic and yet elusive question.

Why do we build products?

He takes a dig at himself by explaining that even if you knew at the time the idea came, as you go along, all you end up doing is just building technology for the sake of it, so it becomes even more important that you know why are you building the product and that why is not forgettable.

Then he goes into what sounds like myth-busting. He mentioned MVP or Lean Startup is not for the ones who are looking to make a quick dirty app, but it is for people who have a vision and a long-term commitment to it.

He mentions that traditionally there have been 2 ways of developing, either develop everything (Waterfall) at once or release early and release often (Agile).

MVP is a hybrid of Waterfall and Agile, it is the minimum set of features needed to learn from earlyevangelists to validate the long-term vision.

Another way to understand MVP is where he describes the Build>Measure>Learn loop. MVP is a way where you do all three processes simultaneously.

The goal of MVP is to reduce the time between all three processes.
